NEVER GIVE AMNESTY, SECURE BORDERS, NO TAX BENEFITS FOR
ILLEGALS
I will work tirelessly to enforce our immigration laws,
ensure our borders are locked down and will always oppose amnesty
for illegal immigrants. Recent estimates have found that the amnesty
agenda being pushed by liberal Washington politicians would cost
U.S. taxpayers $2.6 trillion over the next 25-30 years – over $1,400
a year for a family of four. Additionally, I will oppose any
legislation that offers taxpayer funded benefits to illegal
immigrants. Earlier this year, Democrat Chris Carney voted to
make it easier for illegal immigrants to receive government funded
healthcare.
ENGLISH AS OFFICIAL LANGUAGE
I believe America is held together not only by a common
culture and identity, but by a common language as well. We must make
English our official language.
MAKE TAX CUTS PERMANENT
Taxpayers are sick and tired of government failing to live within its means. I support a full 10% reduction in all non-social security, non-medicare and non-defense spending. Liberal Democrats in Congress, like Nancy Pelosi and Chris Carney, are allowing numerous tax cuts to expire - tax cuts that have saved Pennsylvania families on average over $2,031 per year. We must make tax cuts permanent and continue to lower taxes on middle-class families, farmers and small businesses. Carney also refused to permanently repeal the death tax, which impacts families, farmers, small businesses and widows terribly. I have also signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge to protect hard working families back home from higher taxes.
PROTECT OUR FAMILY FARMS
Our local farmers deserve a fair price for their products,
accounting for both production costs and labor. These changes will
both grow our rural economy and protect the family farming
tradition. Fighting for our farmers will also ensure a safe,
domestic food supply.
PROTECT SOCIAL SECURITY AND ENCOURAGE PERSONAL SAVING
If there is one thing that the government should do right, no matter what, it is to protect social security and the millions of seniors who are relying on the promise of a safe and secure social security check each month. Congress must immediately stop robbing social security funds and pay back what it owes to the trust fund. I oppose privatizing social security because it will take billions of dollars out of a system in which seniors are relying on right now. I support a government matching tax credit for families who save for their children and individuals who save for themselves. The result: save $500.00, and cut your tax bill by $500.
ELIMINATE GOVERNMENT WASTE
Members of Congress have a responsibility to side with taxpayers in opposing the billions of our tax dollars being spent every year on wasteful pork projects. Too often Washington politicians care more about spending your tax dollars to win votes back home, then thinking first about your wallet. That’s why we’re left with the $300 million bill for a “bridge to nowhere,” $450,000 for disc jockey camps, $50,000 for mule museums and $74 million for peanut storage. Even Hillary Clinton has requested a half million for a museum honoring Woodstock. These programs add up to billions in wasteful spending that must be put through the same competitive bidding and accountability process as every other program is in the federal government.
PRO-LIFE, PRO-FAMILY
I oppose abortion and believe we should protect the sanctity and culture of life. I applaud the recent Supreme Court decision that outlaws the tragic practice of partial-birth abortion. I support the use of adult stem cells in finding and treating life threatening diseases. However, we must oppose both human cloning and allowing researchers to create life simply to destroy it.
SUPPORT 2ND AMENDMENT
Growing up on my grandparent’s farm in Bradford County where hunting was a tradition, my father taught me the proper use and respect for firearms. I understand what the right to keep and bear arms really means, and will always support the constitutional rights of gun owners.
SUPPORT OUR VETERANS AND SERVICEMEN & WOMEN
Hundreds of thousands of men and women have heroically answered the call to serve our country in uniform. We owe it to them that they receive the best possible health care on time, when they need it. That means tackling the VA bureaucracy to improve efficiency and reduce waiting times. It also means that we must take care of the men and women returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan, to ensure that their transition back into day-to-day life is guided with the proper medical support, job training and education needed to make it happen successfully.
DEFEAT RADICAL ISLAMIC TERRORISM, SUPPORT OUR TROOPS
Politicians in Washington have sadly forgotten the lessons of September 11th – that Islamic terrorists declared war on us. While some mistakes may have been made, we must always stay on offense, fight for victory and fully support our men and women in uniform with the equipment and supplies they need. There must be no safe havens from which terrorists can launch an attack on us here at home.
QUALITY, AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE
I will oppose Hillary-style socialized medicine at every
turn! As an optometrist, I deal everyday with the ridiculous
bureaucracy of the federal government. We cannot allow this
bureaucracy, the same one that has failed to secure our borders,
to run our healthcare. I will promote the use of Health Savings
Accounts, where families can save for health coverage tax free and
use cheaper, secondary insurance for catastrophic illness only. This
will allow individuals to save while they are young and healthy. A
move away from middlemen will reduce overhead costs, allow for
portability and thereby increase competition.
BREAK OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL
We must break our dependence on foreign oil, which will improve our economic and national security by eliminating the risk of foreign dictators holding our energy supply hostage. I remember how a national initiative like NASA set out by President Kennedy opened our imagination and spurred a generation of innovation in science, mathematics and technology that grew our economy at the same time. But since the economy-devastating gas lines of the 1970s, little has changed in our fossil-fuel reliant energy policy. We need to recapture that national drive of innovation by leading a 10-year drive to break free of fossil fuels, which will inspire another generation of young students to study math and science and allow our economy to be one step ahead of the next economic revolution. Our economy and national security depend on it.
TORT REFORM
Wealthy “slip-and-fall” trial lawyers and their endless, baseless lawsuits are holding back research, development, industry, schools and government, costing Pennsylvania families millions of dollars every year. In addition, these lawsuits affect the insurance premiums doctors are forced to pay to protect themselves against hungry trial lawyers, a cost which is passed on to patients. I support tort reform that enacts caps on the amount juries can award in lawsuits. |
